TirolS – 2 states, 1 lift

Linking the Fieberbrunn ski area with the
Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang is perfect,
and is due to start in December 2015.

Its name has already been chosen: the project “TirolS – 2 states, one lift” will link not only 2 ski areas, but also the states of Tyrol and Salzburg. The Fieberbrunn lift company is investing around 20 million Euros in the project, one that will catapult the whole region in a quantum leap forward in growth and value. 40% of the cost will come from own finances, the rest will be met by banks, which means that all of the requirements have been met for the realisation of the new ski link. For the PillerseeTal, this project represents an important step towards future security. As the development of winter Alpine resorts greatly determines the attractivity of a ski area, Fieberbrunn has seized the chance of the century with this great coalition.

The link will be achieved solely by a 10-seater single cable gondola lift, by the company Doppelmayr, with a capacity of 2600 guests an hour. It will start from a bottom station at Reckmoos-Süd, have a middle station at the base of the Hörndlingergraben near the Pulvermacheralm, and then continue up to the Reiterkogel in the centre of the Skicirus. A new, attractive 3.5 km piste will run from the Reiterkogel in the area around the Vierstadlalm, with a vertical height difference of 780 metres, and will be equipped with powerful snowmaking facilities.

The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang also views the new ski link as a very positive development. Both ski areas have invested greatly in quality over many years, and building this lift will increase the amount of pistes by 20%. The future Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang with Fieberbrunn will be one of the largest ski areas in the world, with a total of 240 km of piste and 68 lifts.

Guests at the new expanded Skicircus will benefit in future from a wider range on offer. Both partners bring their individual strengths to the collaboration, and the present Skicircus is excited about the size of the ski region especially, with its perfectly prepared pistes, snowparks such as the Nightpark in Hinterglemm and the NITRO Snowpark in Leogang, the skier/boardercross run in Saalbach, floodlit pistes, toboggan runs and, new in winter 2014/15, the snow trails. Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang guests will also have the internationally highly regarded expansive Fieberbrunn freeride area at their disposal thanks to the new link. Winter 2014/15 saw 2 international World Cup events hosted here: a downhill and a men’s Super G on 21 and 22 February 2015. The world’s best freeriders were in Fieberbrunn on 31 January 2015 as part of the Freeride World Tour.

A good lift infrastructure plays a most important role in the whole economic development of an Alpine region, according to expert opinion, both for winter and summer. There are countless other examples of ski areas that have linked up with each other that give good reason to hope that this project will have a purely positive effect on the development of tourism in the whole region.

The future ski region will be run by competent partners, making the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang one of the most popular, best equipped, innovative ski regions in the Alps with one of the best infrastructures. Since the year 2000 alone, a sum of around 300 million Euros has been invested in lifts, snowmaking facilities, comfort, and other projects. There are 9 reservoirs feeding over 700 snow making machines. All main runs and 90% of all pistes are covered by snowmaking facilities, a figure that continues to increase. The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang is therefore one of the most snow sure ski areas in the Alps. There are around 480 employees at peak times working for the lift company in Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang, making it one of the most important employers in the region. The Fieberbrunn lift company, which employs about 100 workers, can also boast that 90% of its pistes are covered by snowmaking facilities, with 200 snowmaking machines and 2 reservoirs.
